Although the ET-7700 handled most of our test prints well, the print of our monochrome test image had a slight blueish tint. Overall photo quality was average for an inkjet. The only issue worth note is that many backgrounds showed traces of banding, a regular pattern of faint striations. Graphics quality was also above par for an inkjet, good enough for business use up to and including PowerPoint handouts, even ones going to important clients or customers you are seeking to impress. Type on most of our test fonts appeared crisp and dark at sizes as small as 5 points. The XP-440's text quality in my testing was above par for an inkjet, fine for anything short of demanding desktop publishing applications that use tiny fonts. See How We Test Printers Strong Text and Graphics Quality The ET-7700 can also print photos at a good pace, averaging 32 seconds per 4-by-6 print. EPSON XP 440 REVIEW PCMAG FULLAlthough the Canon TS9120 printed out our Word document at a very respectable 13.2ppm clip, it slowed to 4.9ppm when printing the full suite. On our full business suite-which in addition to the aforementioned Word document includes documents with photos and graphics as well as text-I clocked it at an average of 7.9ppm, effectively tying it with the Epson ET-7750 ($649.99 at Amazon) (8ppm). I timed the ET-7700 in the text (Word) portion of our business applications suite at 14.3 pages per minute (ppm), better than its 13ppm rated speed. EPSON XP 440 REVIEW PCMAG DRIVERI tested it over an Ethernet connection with its driver installed on a PC running Windows 10 Professional. EPSON XP 440 REVIEW PCMAG SOFTWAREIt also supports the suite of Epson Connect software solutions including Email Print, Epson iPrint, Epson Creative Print, Epson Remote Print, and Epson Scan to Cloud. EPSON XP 440 REVIEW PCMAG ANDROIDThe ET-7700 is Apple AirPrint compatible, Mopria-certified for easy printing to Android devices, and supports Google Cloud Print. A memory-card reader accepts cards in the SD family, and there is also a port for a USB thumb drive.Ĭonnectivity to a computer is via USB, to a wired network by Ethernet or 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, or via a direct peer-to-peer connection to a compatible device via Wi-Fi Direct. ![]() It has a letter-size flatbed, but lacks an automatic document feeder (ADF) for scanning or copying multipage documents unattended. ![]() The ET-7700 ($449.99 at Amazon) prints, copies, and scans, but doesn't fax. The main paper tray holds up to 100 sheets of plain letter-size paper, and there's a mini-tray above it that holds 20 sheets of photo paper. EPSON XP 440 REVIEW PCMAG PLUSThe tilt-up control panel above the output tray houses a 2.7-inch non-touch color LCD, flanked by a four-way controller with central OK button, plus buttons with icons for home, start, and backspace. The ET-7700, a blend of matte and glossy black, measures 6.6 by 20 by 16.3 inches (HWD) when closed and 11 by 15.4 by 20.4 inches with trays extended, and it weighs 18.1 pounds. But not until now, with the introduction of the ET-7700 and the ET-7750, we haven't seen printers with five ink tanks that support consumer-level photo printing using bottled ink, with the cost savings that come along. Canon and Epson have led the way-the six-cartridge Canon Pixma TS9120 Wireless Inkjet All-in-One is our Editors' Choice consumer-grade photo and light-duty home office AIO printer, and Epson has released the likes of the five-cartridge Epson Expression Premium XP-640 Small-in-One Printer, which performed well in printing photos. Photo Printing for a PittanceĪlthough inkjet printers that feature extra ink cartridges-in addition to the standard black, cyan, yellow, and magenta ink normally used in color printing-in an effort to improve photo quality, have been around for more than a decade, it is only within the past few years that photo-centric consumer all-in-one printers have become commonplace. But although it has five ink bottles, adding a photo black, its overall photo print quality is merely average. The ET-7700 has a limited feature set for an all-in-one printer at its price-lacking an ADF (automatic document feeder) for scanning and copying multipage documents, for example-but has extremely low running costs, enabling you to print 8.5-by-11 color photos for barely a penny per print. It can print borderless photos up to 8.5 by 11 inches, while the Epson Expression Premium ET-7750 EcoTank Wide-Format All-in-One Supertank Printer goes as large as 11-by-17-inch prints. The Epson Expression Premium ET-7700 EcoTank All-in-One Supertank Printer ($549.99) is the smaller, less expensive, and less capable of two photo-centric all-in-one printers recently released by Epson.
